Wireless Nurse Call
…without buying a new nurse call system
Integrating existing, legacy nurse call systems with wireless telephones is one of the best investments in technology a hospital can make. Wireless nurse call improves staff productivity, reduces response times to patient requests, and increases overall patient & staff satisfaction.
Studies have shown that wireless nurse call has several distinct advantages over normal nurse call systems:
- Immediate Response: When a caregiver carries a wireless device, they are able to receive patient calls immediately regardless of their location. This functionality allows them to respond rapidly to patient requests—which greatly improves patient satisfaction and care.
- Improved Efficiency: Because a voice conversation through the wireless device can be established with a patient regardless of the caregiver’s location, the number of redundant trips/steps for nurses to provide care is reduced significantly. This not only increases staff satisfaction, but greatly improves staff productivity as well.
How It Works
Once a patient call is placed, the patient request or alarm is sent from the patient room to the nurse call system, which in turn interprets the data to determine who should receive the information. Once identified, the information is instantly routed to the appropriate device via text message.
In accordance with the JCAHO 2009 National Patient Safety Goals, the implementation of this solution positions the community hospital to more successfully achieve Goal #2 and Goal #16. Click here for information.
When the wireless device receives the alarm or alert, the caregiver is empowered to provide accurate and effective patient care. Room/Bed Number and Priority Level are typically displayed on the mobile device, providing detailed call information to the caregiver. At this point, the nurse can then choose to accept or escalate the call, or with the touch of a button, automatically connect to the patient’s bedside speaker.
