Physician Connectivity

With DCM’s Physician Connectivity, linking nurses to physicians, and physicians to patients has never been simpler.

The Old Way:

Traditional nurse-physician communications are inadequate, often leading to lengthy cycles of phone tag when nurses try to contact physicians.  If the nurse cannot reach the physician on the first try, then the nurse must hope to be present at the nursing station when the physician returns the call.  If the nurse is not present to recieve the returned call, then he/she will have to try once again to contact the physician.  This vicious cycle of back and forth calling has a devastating impact on both patient care and staff satisfaction.

Sound like a headache? It is. Traditional physician to nurse communication response times average 1 hour 30 minutes nationally. This means, for example, that a patient in pain waits 1 hour and 30 minutes on average until pain relieving medicine can be administered.

The DCM Way:

Dalcon’s DCM outfits nurses with wireless handsets, allowing them to make direct calls to physicians. Physicians can also be outfitted with wireless handsets, or nurse calls can be routed directly to the physicians’ cell phones. If a physician cannot be reached immediately, then he/she can return the nurse’s call at a later time directly to the nurse’s wireless handset—DCM eliminates phone tag.

DCM improves nurse-physician communications so significantly, that the DCM physician to nurse communication response time average is 5 minutes. Now that is simplifying patient care communications.
