DCM 2.0 Hardware

Central DCM server

dellserverThe heart of the Dalcon Communication solution is the server. Consistent with our open-standards approach, the server we propose is not proprietary to Dalcon. It is an industry-standard server offering up-to-date technology and value.

An example configuration for a DCM server is the Dell 2950, rack-mount server which would be typically configured with:

•  Quad-Core Processor
•  Dual, Raid 400GB Disk Drives
•  Dual, Redundant Power Supplies and fans

Redundant, Spare Server Options
The mean time to failure is extremely long for these type servers. However, due to the relatively low cost of our industry-standard servers, it is practical to consider a complete stand-by server for ultimate reliability. The backup server is set up to synchronize with the primary server and be available for immediate service in the case of a primary server failure.

While the main advantage of the Dalcon, open standards, communications approach is the ability to integrate “best-of-breed” technology such as Dell servers, for any given application, it is necessary to make a selection of the vendor and model of phones to be used.  While the DCM solution can support phones from many different manufacturers such as Cisco, Aastra, Grandstream, and Snom, we most frequently recommend the SIP phones from Polycom.

Wireless Phones

DCM supports and recommends Polycom SIP wireless phones. They are ideal for any single or multi-location business, retail or institutional setting that requires mobile employees to be available to take or receive calls at any time.

SoftPhones

counterpathMany Dalcon users skip their desktop phones altogether in favor of SoftPhones—programs using a computer as a phone with speaker/mic or headset. A variety of these type programs are available. Dalcon has found the X-Lite and EyeBeam softphones provided by Counterpath to be full-featured and reliable.

Standard Analog Phones

DCM also supports standard analog touch-tone phones. This does require standard phone wire run from the phone to the DCM or a gateway. However, in the case of a significant number of these phones are already installed (hospitals, motels, college dorms, classrooms, etc.) they can be connected and used.
